My New Project!

Balloon DogMy new project is balloon animals and other balloon shapes!  I’ve always secretly wanted to know how to make all those balloon animals and things that the clowns make at the fair!  It’s so cool.  It would be so cool to just bust out all these cool things from a balloon.

So, I’m trying it out!  My first balloon dog.  FAIL!  The head is too big and the body is too small. LOL.  Oh well, at least it was fun.  It was my very first time!  More to come!

College Needs (to) Help

This thought comes to my mind on occasion and I can’t recall if I’ve written about it before.  I feel like colleges do not do a good job of preparing their graduates for the real world.  Actually, long ago, I read this article that talked about how high school students are more prepared for the real world than college students are.  In high school – you stick to a strict schedule of being at school starting at 7 or 8 till 3 or 4 and if you have athletics, you usually are practicing till the early evening.  There are rules to follow and things to do.  In college, you get to select your classes – only a few hours a day, you can schedule them late in the day, or not at all.  You can even skip class or even fall asleep with little consequence.  There’s a lot of freedom.  So, when you first get to the real world, I think it’s hard for people to adapt to such rules and scheduling.

Aside from schedules and rules, I feel like college does a poor job of giving students a full or at least wide spectrum of possible careers available out in the real world other than the more commonly known occupations like doctors, lawyers, teachers, psychologists, engineers, etc.  The working world is wide and vast with jobs people probably never knew existed.  College also does not prepare students on how to get a job, how to set up a resume, how to network, how to get internships, how to go to an interview.  Sure, they offer these things in the career center, but that is only useful if you go there on your own.  Instead, they should have mandatory classes on these topics.  They should partner with businesses around and set students up to intern or shadow to learn about all the different types of jobs out there.  This will give them a better idea of 1) what is available and 2) what it actually entails.

Maybe some majors are better than others.  I feel like maybe the science field is good but others aren’t.  Also, college needs to be more hands on.  (Actually, now as I’m writing this, I feel like I already wrote about it before, haha – oh well, I don’t to dig or delete this.)  A large part of new grads having difficulties getting a job include the lack of experience.  Well, it’s a bit circular here, some internships or jobs require previous experience – well you can’t get experience if no one will hire you – and on and on it goes.

I think my line of work is pretty awesome and it’s pretty neat.  Does anyone in college even know about it?  Probably not.  Do normal consumers even know about it?  Probably not.  How did I get into it?  Well, not through college! Haha.

Anyway, college needs to improve so that students can be better prepared for the real world.

The end.

Random Fact 3

I am a crazy gum chewer – only while at work.

I chew on average about 4-5 pieces of gum a day when I’m at the office – which means I finish a whole pack of gum myself in usually 3-4 days.  I always chew after I eat or drink something.  I usually drink coffee in the morning – so I’ll chew one right after that – if I end up eating one thing – I’ll usually chew a new piece right after that even if it’s just one cookie.  I used to be able to chew 1 piece of gum for 2-4 hours – but these days it loses its flavor a lot faster.  I <3 gum. :)

Random Fact 2

I tied our girls high school record for most 3-pointers made in a game.  6.  6 3-pointers in a game.  I still remember that game – it was an away game.  They were just flying into the hoop, swish, swish, swish, one right after the next.  Everyone on our bench was getting crazy, getting so excited!!!

Then the coach took me out cause we were winning by too much.  Lame.  I could have broke the record.

Ants

antsAnts are gross.  All of last night and today I kept feeling like ants were crawling on me!  Yesterday, after work, I went to take out the trash.  One of the trash can handles were covered…COVERED…in ants.  It was so nasty!!  I think they were going after the cupcakes.  The other handle also had ants on it, but less.  I contemplated trying to drag the trash can out with just that one handle, but seeing all those ants really grossed me out.  So I went and got a napkin and put it on the right handle  (with less ants) and dragged the trash can out.  I checked my hands to make sure I had no ants on me.  Whew! Safe!

Then I went to use the restroom – then I saw an ant in the restroom!! :(  That means it was ON me!  So then I felt itchy all night long and kept feeling like ants were biting me.  I showered and that was that.

Today.  Today I was doing my own thing at work.  I felt something crawling on my face on my hair.  Then on my face.  It was an ANT!!!!!!!!!!!! I smashed an ant on my face at work.  SICK.  That is so gross.  There must be some ants on my clothes that I was wearing to take the trash out.  So disgusting.  So now, I still feel ants crawling all over me.  :(

I should have done what I was going to do – which was bring the bottle of all-purpose cleaner out and spray down the handles of the trash can before I touched it.

So GROSS.  I hope I don’t find any more ants on myself or in my room or at work or anywhere near me! :(

Random Fact 1

Let’s try something new with this blog here…

I am right-handed but I play cards left-handed and also like to open jars/bottles left-handed (although sometimes my left hand isn’t strong enough).

Bubbles

BubblesF. bought a bunch of bubbles from party city this weekend and we had a lot of fun playing with them.  This afternoon was a beautiful day.  It was warm, with a slight breeze, we were all just hanging out at the house and in the backyard.  I was blowing bubbles and watching them float away and a thought came to me.  Maybe bubbles exude happiness or at least…maybe they could.  After all, we  were having a lot of fun just playing with them and watching them.  It was so simple, so innocent.  What would happen if we stood somewhere with a good amount of foot traffic and just started blowing bubbles everywhere?  Maybe some people would get mad, but maybe it would make some people happy and just brighten up their day.  Maybe, they would want to join us.

Those thoughts were kind of driven by one of the things Jaeson Ma did for his 365 Days of Love campaign where he stood on the streets of Los Angeles and danced if people honked.  He just wanted to put a smile on people’s faces on a Friday afternoon.  It also made me think of Where the Hell is Matt?  P. had told me about this guy before.  He traveled around the world to do one silly little dance and had people all around the world join him.  Sure, it was backed by advertisement but it was so simple.  People were so happy to just dance.

Maybe bubbles can put a smile on someone’s face.
